Lord Teach Us To Pray

In the early 80’s the Holy Spirit was teaching me how to stay tuned into the voice of God, praying without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17. The Lord was teaching me to keep my mind stayed upon Him.  It was a real training in learning how to abide in Him. My prayer time consisted at this time of 30 minutes in the early morning and 30 minutes in the evening of concentrated prayer. I was also to pray throughout the day silently to myself at every opportunity. I was learning to obey the lessons of prayer given to me personally by the Holy Spirit. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints…” Ephesians 6:18

I worked at a shopping mall and my office was located at the back of the store. One day I was sitting at my desk and before I realized what had happened, the Holy Spirit had picked me up gently, and I found myself standing at the front door of my work place.  I looked at the clock, and thought, "It's too early for lunch,"- it was a few minutes before eleven.  I said, "Holy Spirit, what do you want?" He gently nudged me out into the mall, into the late morning traffic of shoppers. I walked very softly, allowing the Holy Spirit to lead me I kept repeating, "What do you want? Where do you want me to go?  Lead me, speak to me." Finally, I stopped in front of a ladies fashion shop where my oldest daughter worked, but again I thought, what am I doing here? Am I supposed to ask her to lunch, but I knew I’d just seen her earlier that morning. I walked up to the check- out counter and asked the clerk that was standing there where I could find my daughter?

She was busy with a customer, but nodded briefly and said, “Your daughter is in the back." I walked around the corner and opened the door to the back room, and I could see her standing there with another young woman.  As I walked towards them, the young woman began to fall and all of a sudden, she was on the floor and was having what looked like a seizure!  Immediately, I knelt down beside her and began to pray for her and call upon the name of the Lord for help. I rebuked the devil, the spirit of destruction and death upon this young woman.  Finally, she seemed to come out of it.  She was weak and could barely stand so my daughter and I helped her over to a chair.  The Holy Spirit revealed to me that she was on some kind of drug.  I didn’t want to embarrass this young woman, so I asked my daughter to step back.  I leaned over and whispered in her ear, "Have you been taking any drugs?"  She began to cry and told me that she had been on the go for days with very little sleep or food and had been taking pills (uppers) to keep her going.

I continued to comfort and pray with her. I shared with her that Jesus loved her and had died for her.  I asked her if she knew the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior.  She said that she didn’t. I said, "Would you like to ask him into your heart right now?  She agreed and I led her through a prayer of repentance and salvation.  She accepted Christ as her personal Savior right there where we stood!  At that very moment she was no longer that pale, shaky individual, but, rather had begun to radiate life.  She was delivered and saved by His love and grace!  To God Be The Glory! For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God"  Romans 8:14 " Father, in the name of Jesus, I pray that you would continue to help us be sensitive to the leading of your Spirit...Amen"
