We had been to South Louisiana for one of our annual conferences. On the way out of town, we stopped to visit a friend who was having some difficult marital problems. After a short time of counseling with her, we left her apartment that was on the third floor of the complex. As we were coming down the flight of stairs and my feet stepped off the last step, the Lord, by the Holy Spirit, popped a complete phone number into my mind. I repeated the phone number out loud and said, "Holy Spirit, why are you giving me this phone number and whose phone number is it?" He told me to obey and call that number immediately. The person needed a Word from Him and He wanted me to deliver it. Jose and I got in the car, and as soon as I saw the first gas station with a phone booth I called out to him to stop! I've got to make a make a phone call." He said, "Who are you going to call?" I said, I honestly don't know." With much anticipation I quickly dialed the phone number given to me by the Holy Spirit. My heart pounded as I wondered who was going to answer on the other end? Will they think I'm crazy? What if they hang up on me?
Then after what seemed like an eternity, a woman answered. I said, "I was leaving the area and the Holy Ghost told me to call this number and talk to the person that answered. They need to hear from God Right Now!" All of a sudden, I said "Do I know you? "The voice seemed so familiar and we both realized about the same time that we knew each other. It was an old friend whom I hadn't spoken to in quite a few years. We were both so surprised to say the least. The Lord revealed to me just before I made the call that I was to tell this person that although she didn't understand all of the trials and tribulations that presently she was going through, that the Lord was with her and would not leave her, nor forsake her. That His Hand would bring her through all the upheavals of her life at that moment!
It was a Word of Knowledge and Wisdom with much comfort for this child of God. As I continued to talk with her I could tell that she had been crying. She said, " just before you called, I was on my knees crying to God that I had to hear from Him today, that I had to have some answers, and then you called. "So I again reassured her that Jesus loved her. She was to continue "Fighting the Good Fight of Faith" and not try to understand all of what's happening to her right then, but rather "Rejoice" and "Trust" in Him. She was so glad to hear from the Lord and encouraged by His love and mercy. I said goodbye and asked her to remember us in prayer as we traveled back home.
Now as we pulled away, I realized why the Holy Spirit had given me only the phone number of this lady and not revealed her identity to me. You see, I did know this sister. She was very versed in the scriptures and capable of hearing from God. I realized that because I knew all these Godly attributes about her, I could have quickly interjected my thoughts and said to myself, " why should I call her, she hears from God?" (intimidated). Our Lord knows exactly how to get us to obey and I was so "Blessed" that I had heard His voice. She was overwhelmed and brought to a place of peace because of God's love for her. To God Be The Glory!! "Hear my cry, O God, attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I." Psalm 61: 1-2
Father, In Jesus name, help us to obey your commands by the Holy Spirit even when we don't understand. Thank you for allowing us to be the Answer to someone else's prayer... Amen.
