“Hear my prayers, O Lord, and let my cry come unto thee." Psalm 102:1 The King James Bible describes this psalm as a “prayer of the afflicted, when he is over whelmed, and poureth out his complaint before the Lord.” This is a rather interesting description, in my opinion. In prayer, we go to God with our joys and sorrows and receive His answers. We ask His blessing and tell Him about our problems. However, the most important part of prayer is listening to what the Lord has to say in our lives. Both in talking and in listening, prayer is one of the most important aspects of a Christian’s life.
While asking God to move on his behalf, the Christian’s Spirit man is built up. Besides helping ourselves prayer also benefits others we intercede for. Many people underestimate prayers’ importance because they tried it for a while and then gave up. But, I say if you won’t work for it, it won’t work for you. Prayer is more than an occasional request when we’re in trouble: it is a constant communication with our God. “But verily God has heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.” Psalm 6:19
As important as prayer is, we can use it for any problem. God always listens whether we’re asking for help on a test or for a major healing. Several important things to pray for would include revival in our cities, and awakening in our churches, healing for the sick, and help for the homeless. We can ask God to spare us the punishments we surely deserve. Only through prayer can we intercede on behalf of our communities and nation, always expecting His help by faith. “Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.” Psalm 66:20
