"Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience."Colossians 3:12. (NLT) I can't begin to tell you all the times the Lord gives us opportunities to spread His love with everyone we come in contact with. One day last week I gave a man a ride to his Doctors appointment. He was a very angry person with a terrible disposition and didn’t have a good word for anyone. I tried being nice and polite making light conversation but nothing worked. I thought to myself why was this man so angry? I dropped him off and said, “Have a nice Day!”
The following week he needed another ride to an early morning Doctors appointment. When I picked him up I could tell he was already in a bad mood--my first thought was Oh my, this isn’t going to be a very pleasant ride. I knew to pray for him--but I asked the Lord, what could I do at that very moment to change this man’s demeanor? I needed to stop and put gas in the vehicle and that’s when the Holy Spirit said, “Ask him if he would like a doughnut and coffee?” I told him, “It’s on me!” “Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul…” Proverbs 16:24. You know, that was all it took, after that he was nice as pie and we laughed and had great conversation. I think I have a friend for life, well at least when I see him again he’ll remember the Act Of Kindness—but we know it was the Love of Jesus extended to him that changed him! “Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.” Ephesians 4:2-3.
