FLYING ABOVE THE STORMS OF LIFE--TRUST JESUS IN EVERY CIRCUMSTANCE

Isaiah 40:31 reads, “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as Eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.” The eagle is known for his strong wings. His breast muscles are powerfully developed so that when sighting a storm his wings will lift him into higher altitudes and he flies above the storm he is facing.

In the early 80’s our ministry phone lines were disconnected. Because of the lack of funds we were unable to pay the phone bill. I did not know how the ministry would survive or carry on without the phones. At that time we didn’t have Internet or e-mail. People either mailed or called in their prayer requests. I remember feeling that all our ministering depended on the phones. Our phones rang daily with prayer needs. During the months of November and December we made a total of 3,583 calls recruiting the prayer troops and encouraging the body of Christ. Sometimes I would have a phone in each ear dispatching prayer at the same time. You can understand why I felt that telephone communication was so vital to this ministry.
The day before the phones were disconnected I attended a church service where the Pastor was speaking about the EAGLE. He said that when an eagle has an infirmity on his body he separates himself high onto the mountains, and with his beak he plucks off his feathers (a painful process I’m sure) then he takes his beak and breaks it by beating it against the rocks and stones, the reason for this is so he will not be able to eat, he actually goes into a period of fasting. While he is fasting several things are happening, healing is taking place and he also grows new feathers. I knew that the spirit of the Lord was speaking loud and clear. He was saying break your beak, (my appetite) fast and pray and you will also grow new feathers (Ascend Onto New Ground). A few days earlier, the Lord had given me this scripture. 1 Peter 4:12-13 “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. The following week the phone lines were disconnected without any notice.
WE ARE TO TRUST JESUS IN EVERY SITUATION; WE ARE IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND. HE WILL NEVER LEAVE OR FORSAKE US. The eagle’s wings are a symbol of God’s love and care for us. Psalm 91:4 “He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust.” For the next three weeks I would be cut off from all and everything. I did not understand why this had happened. I felt the Lord was saying you are going to grow new feathers and it was a painful process. I felt alone and cut off from my brothers and sisters in the Lord. “He shall feed his flock like a shepherd; he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom and gently lead those that are with young.” Isaiah 40:1. The Lord used this time to give me rest. For months I had been going full force up at four and five in the morning and not stopping till late in the evening. During this silent period, I purposed in my heart that I would continue to serve Him (phones or no phones) I would not be defeated. I would also learn to be still and know that He is God and listen for the still small voice.

Over the next few weeks I would look at the telephone, sitting there so quiet and not ringing. I would say to myself, can this piece of equipment stop what God has commissioned me to do? Is this the only thing that makes this ministry operate? I would mention from time to time to others that the ministry revolved around the phones, but I was so wrong. The Lord pointed out to me that the phones were only a tool in His hand, to carry out His purposes, but around God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. I began to see this as He would wake me during the night to pray for others (He was the telephone) and during the day He would lay someone on my heart and I would get in my car and go see them and they would need prayer. When I had a need He would send someone to comfort and pray with me.

It is amazing that just when we think that a certain thing is indispensable, He Shows Us How Much More He Is Indispensable! He gave me a promise during this storm from His Word to stand on--Luke 21:13 “It shall turn to you for a testimony.” Then one day, the monies came in, our phones were reconnected and started ringing again--Praise The Lord!

Child of God, what is your obstacle? Maybe it is not telephones as in my case, but whatever it is, RISE UP and FLY ABOVE IT and OVERCOME like the Eagle. TO GOD BE THE GLORY! “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
