In 1980 we began a journey that I will never forget which changed my life and my family’s life forever. God took me through a season of judging my heart which led to a material stripping because I had made the all American dream my entire focus and there was no room for Jesus who is my redeemer. I remember moving South from my home up North and had a big, big truck pulling another truck full of my earthly treasures.
Over the next seven years (early ministry training) I found out that I had worshipped all of those earthly treasures that I had worked so hard day and night to acquire them—no room for Jesus, my redeemer. At the end of those seven painful years of being stripped of material goods, repenting and learning to live a life of holiness, we pulled out seven years later to go back up North again. I recall at that time that all our belongings were in an 8x25 ft. camper. There weren’t any trucks full of my earthly treasures anymore. All had burned up in that wilderness and now the camper was full of Bibles, Study Books and seven (7) Plaques with God’s Word on them and my Minister’s diploma.
The Holy Spirit said to me, “There is only one thing that survives the wilderness, AND THAT IS MY WORD, for in the wilderness everything will burn up. “Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble: Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.” 1 Corinthians 3:2-1.
In 1980 God began to call Hilda to her knees in her prayer closet. Her daily time of prayer increased, for the nation and the needs of others. Thus was United Intercessors, an inter-denominational move of prayer, birthed to Unite the Body of Christ in the work of prayer for Revival in America.
