Jesus Is The Reason For The Season--Love Your Fellowman!

I remember a time when Jose and I had been in Texas on a prayer tour. On the way back home, we passed a family who was pushing their car which had a flat tire down the interstate. It was a man, his young son, and the wife who was trying to steer the car while all pushed. It was drizzling rain as we passed. We said, “Oh, Lord, send them some help,” and we kept on going.
As we drove by, the Holy Spirit began to convict us so strongly and said, “I’m not sending anyone else; I’m sending you. Turn around and go back and help them.” And we did! We pushed their car to the nearest gas station. These folks were headed to Florida, looking for work, and they had run out of money, and they needed a tire!
The Holy Spirit said, “Buy them a tire.” We obeyed. Next He said, “Buy them some food and fill up their tank with gas and give them some money to help them make it home.” We were very limited in our finances, but we obeyed. Finally, Jose and I thought, “Holy Spirit this is enough!” (Just before we left Texas we had decided to visit with Jose’s dad for a few minutes. As we were leaving he gave Jose some very good work boots, which Jose had no use for, and really tried to discourage him from giving them to him. Yet they ended up in the trunk of the car.) Just as we were thinking we had done enough for this family, the man lifted up his foot and said, “Look, I’ve got holes in my shoes.” Jose immediately thought, “Does this man want my shoes too! Will I have to give them to him and go home barefoot?” Just then we remembered the boots in the trunk. Jose went got them out quickly. To our surprise, they fit the man perfectly! He was now fed, tire fixed, had a full tank of gas, money to get home, and a pair of boots. As they drove away smiling at us, happiness and contentment were written all over their faces. Yes, what we had in our pocket was all that we had. There were no savings accounts or extra money hidden away in a sock or drawer anywhere. In those early days of our Christian walk we learned something new about the heart of God. We learned what it was to share what we had with our fellowman. This is the season to love your neighbor. What a great opportunity to celebrate the birth of Christ with mercy and share with someone the gift of compassion. " ...Thou shalt Love thy neighbour as thyself." Mark 12:31 --To God Be The Glory!
