One day over 25 years ago or so, as I was praying with my hand laid on the world globe, I heard these words--"Aleutian Islands." The Holy Spirit said, "Pray for them." I had never heard that name before in my life, let alone know how to spell it. I looked in the dictionary for a word that sounded like what I was hearing but couldn't find one. Then I called several praying friends who I knew and they didn't know either. Finally, I remembered a praying friend who was a school teacher. I called her and she immediately informed me how to spell it correctly and proceeded to tell me that these were islands up by Alaska. Sure enough, there they were on the globe just as she had said!! I was so excited to pray for them. Of course at this time, I didn't have a clue why I should pray for them. I would pray diligently every day by laying my hand on them and then go on with the prayer business of the day. I might have done this for about six months or so, I'm not sure, but it was good while.
Then, one evening the phone rang and it was my sister calling me from another state. She shared with me that while watching the evening news they had reported that this huge wave (called it some funny name (Tsunami) that she couldn't pronounce) was headed toward the Aleutian Islands with powerful and great speed. If this big wave had hit those Islands, it would have hurt and killed so many many people. But rather, what happened, the wave was fast approaching that area and all of a sudden the wave dissipated! It looked like a hand or something supernatural had touched the wave. Just before it hit, that wave diminished and disappeared into the ocean and the people on those islands were spared from disaster. All this time I am listening silently on the other end of the phone to her, hardly breathing and in shock. My sister went further to say that the forecaster said in so many words that it was a Miracle! And then she said to me, "You know Hilda, I believe somebody prayed!!" When she told me this I was in "awe" and knew that I couldn't even say that I had been praying for the Aleutian Islands. Rather, the sacredness of that moment was kept as a prayer secret in my heart for that time. And my other thought was, if I told my secret who would believe me anyway?
I had prayed and I knew that, possibly others had prayed too, and because of our intercession those islands were spared! "And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none." Ezekiel 22:30. Praying people are the ones who "stand in the gap" for the land that He should not destroy it. Exactly what happened here? I can tell you what happened--the Holy Spirit told someone the "Secret of Judgment" that was fast approaching the Aleutian Islands so the people there could be spared!! To God Be The Glory!
