My daughter Debra shared this testimony with me. One afternoon she had been out running errands during the "Holiday Season" and along the way She Gave an Offering to a Church Group and in return they Gave Her A Free Ticket. She looked at it briefly; it was an invite to a church in the area that was putting on a play of the Birth of Jesus with live actors and animals. She was not familiar with that particular church and didn’t know where it was located. Therefore she dropped the ticket in her purse and went on.
A few weeks went by and one Saturday night her and her husband James were out riding around and they thought, let us go and find a place where we can get some Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows which was James’s Favorite. As they were traveling and looking here and there, suddenly the traffic stopped and policemen were directing the cars to go a different way. They followed the "DETOUR SIGNS" not knowing where it would lead them--till finally they came to what appeared a dead end. Staring them in the face was this Big Beautiful Church that had a lot of cars in line to get into the parking lot. They thought, well we don’t have anything else to do, let us stop and see what is going on. As they were walking into the church she immediately remembered the blue ticket which she was still carrying around in her purse. She looked at it and sure enough it was the INVITE to the BIRTH OF JESUS CELEBRATION!
The event lasted about an hour and they thoroughly enjoyed it. Once the play was over they started to leave walking toward their car, and someone came up running and said, “Wait A Minute; We Have A Cup Of Hot Chocolate With Marshmallows For You!” GOD IS SO WONDERFUL, if they had not taken the detour, this couple would have "MISSED THEIR BLESSINGS”, Hot Chocolate and all because THEY OBEYED – our Lord was in control and the Holy Spirit was surely leading. "...Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you." Jeremiah 7:23. Usually a detour will lead you a different route that you are not familiar with, but usually the detour will lead you back to the main road you were on. As you catch up it will take you to the original destination where you were headed. The secret is this; the detour was needed to get you there. God is so gracious. He gives us the desires of our hearts--no matter how small they may seem to be. "Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart." Psalm 37:4. To God be the Glory!
