Many of you have heard our testimony and know that my husband’s heart was not always turned to the Lord. For years, even after he received salvation, I could see that only a half-way commitment to serve the Lord was evident. Many times I watched him wrestle with the things of the flesh that kept him in bondage and sometimes captive to sin. Yes, it would have been easier to leave him, but my Father would continue to remind me of my vow I had made, “For Better Or Worse, Till Death Do Us Part”. He would also remind me that He never divorced me, but continued to love me in spite of my sin until I fully surrendered to Him. Therefore, I was encouraged to continue to intercede for him determined in my heart to see a total deliverance in his life, which finally came in time. As time went by, I could also see the dealings of God that said to him, I want more from you than just being My child; I want you for My service.
In 1984, God would speak to him to lay down his welding career of twenty-four years. A career that was rough, required hard work and long hours in the heat, but made him a good family provider. Later God would lead him into a completely new profession – carpentry. He continued to make a weekly paycheck. About a year later his employment terminated and the Lord would put him into his own carpentry business. Some weeks there was a paycheck, some weeks where was none. Some months we had money, and some months we didn’t. We would learn to totally trust God for our finances. I had seen Jose cry many times, as he asked God, “How can I support my family without steady work? I don’t have FAITH like Smith Wigglesworth, or Rees Howell. God, help my unbelief so that I can have that kind of Faith To Believe You For All Things – including finances.” It was rough watching my husband, who was used to making money by the sweat of his brow, now in this tremendous school of faith. His desperation was my anguish many times. After moving back up North, the Lord would shut all doors to the carpentry trade. What would he do? After we made the move He would be forced to go to work in a factory for some time. He felt trapped, unable to pray and do the Lord’s work, so both of us cried, “Lord, did we go through all of that schooling these past seven years, give all for the Gospel sake, and move back home to have Jose laboring in a factory – a life consumed in making a paycheck?” Most of you will agree that GOD’S DELAYS ARE NOT HIS DENIALS.
Several years back, in visiting our hometown, Jose had verbalized that if God would ever see fit to move us back home, he would like to have a book store. Sometime later, after beginning his work at the factory, God would raise up an obedient, merciful individual who felt that Jose’s ministry was much more valuable than laboring the way he was. This person asked Jose, without knowing much about his book store dream, “Would you like to have a book store?” Of course his answer was, “Yes, but I don’t have any money.” To make a long testimony short, Jose was set up in business. The building was purchased for him, and Jose became a happy servant of the Lord, as the proud owner of his own book store for the Glory of God!
