In 1978 we lived up north when the economy began to slow down and by 1980 Jose and I were both without jobs. Without a job, you don't have any money and you cannot pay your bills So what happened-we lost our home, car, and credit. There were no jobs in sight! The Lord moved us to South Louisiana to find work. Our world falling apart, but the Lord used it all to our good. During those years, He showed me so many valuable lessons. He showed me that the children and I were "wasters" and we repented and became good stewards of His blessings. We didn't have any money to speak of, but we learned to give to others out of our own need. We didn't have any medical insurance or money for medicine so I couldn't run to the doctor, therefore, I came to know Jesus as my Healer and Great Physician. I couldn't run to the bank and borrow money for purchases so we had to save our money and buy with cash. There wasn't any retirement fund but we were encouraged with this scripture, " I have been young, and now I'm old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread." Psalms 37:25
I learned to pray and pray and draw close to the Lord. He did the impossible for us and many miracles of Answered Prayer. When we needed food, many times like Elijah the Prophet He fed us by the ravens as we sat by this new brook called "Cherith." This means the brook of cutting or pruning off all that was not producing fruit. We did not know very many people in Louisiana therefore there was no one to ask for help (except the One that sticketh closer than a brother, Jesus) and we were in need of a home. Our credit was gone so we found an old, used mobile home and paid weekly installments on it until we paid it off. We put it on a mobile home lot and my husband Jose, while holding a full time job, was stretched, learned to be a carpenter and I was his "go for" person.
In one year we had completely renovated our moble home and Praise God we finally knew what it felt like to have the peace of God in not having a a mortgage payment. For the first time in our lives the monthly mortgage and rent was gone. We learned to live within our "means" and the mountainous debt became a "plain." I watched my husband's stress fall off of him. He no longer had to work long hours of overtime to keep up with the All American Dream. My husband and I would not trade those experiences for anything in this world. Soon after, I would dedicate myself to the work of Prayer for America. When our own personal economy failed we made it and you will too-Emmanuel is with us. To God Be The Glory!
